A. 
Awning, Canopy Or Marquee Sign. A sign that is mounted on, painted on or attached to an awning, canopy or marquee. No such signs shall project above, below or beyond the awning, canopy or marquee.

B. 
Business Sign. A sign which directs attention to a business or profession conducted or to products, services or entertainment sold or offered upon the premises where such sign is located or to which it is affixed.
C. 
Construction Sign. A temporary sign providing information about a future development or current construction on a site and the parties involved in the project. Construction signs shall only be permitted during the construction period and only on the premises on which the construction is taking place.
D. 
Elevated Sign. Any sign placed upon, or supported by, the ground independent of the principal structure on the property where the bottom edge of the sign is ten (10) feet or more above the ground level. X = ½ of the sign face, Y = ¼ of width of base, Z = twenty (20) feet above the base elevation of the highway, maximum height = twenty (20) feet, bottom of sign shall be at least ten (10) feet above the ground elevation.

E. 
Elevated/Projecting Roof Sign. A sign totally supported on the roof of a structure, not including flush-mounted logo roof signs. Elevated/projecting roof signs shall not project more than twelve (12) inches beyond the face of the structure. In no case shall an elevated/projecting roof sign project more than ten (10) feet beyond the highest point of the roof on which the sign is located.
F. 
Ground Sign. Any sign placed upon, or supported by, the ground independent of the principal structure on the property, where the edge of the sign is less than six (6) feet above the ground and the base is no less than fifty percent (50%) of the width of the face of the sign, presenting a monolithic structure. The maximum height shall be no more than ten (10) feet. If the base of the sign is less than five (5) feet, no planter is required.

G. 
Flush-Mounted Logo Roof Sign. A sign totally supported on the roof of a structure that displays the logo of the tenant of such structure. Flush-mounted logo roof signs shall be mounted parallel to and flush with the roof's surface. In no case shall a flush-mounted logo roof sign project above the highest point of the roof (compare to "elevated/projecting roof sign").

H. 
Identification Sign. A sign giving the name and address of a structure, business, development or establishment. Such signs may be wholly or partly devoted to a readily recognized symbol.
I. 
Monument Sign. Any sign whose base is greater in width than the face of the sign and whose height is no greater than six (6) feet. (X = 110% of the width of the sign face, Y = 10% of the sign face, maximum height is six (6) feet.)

J. 
Name Plate Sign. A sign giving the name and/or address of the owner or occupant of a structure or premises on which it is located and, where applicable, a professional status.
K. 
Political Election Sign. Any sign relating to a candidate, political party, ballot issue or other issue to be voted upon in any public election. Political signs shall not be paced in the right-of-way.

L. 
Portable Display Sign. Any movable display structure, capable of relocation, under its own power or towed by a motor vehicle. The display message of the sign may be painted or non-painted and capable of being readily altered. Portable display signs may be with or without electrical illumination and power and with or without wheels.

Projecting Sign. A sign that is wholly or partly dependent upon a structure for support and which projects more than twelve (12) inches from such structure.

Real Estate Sign. A temporary sign pertaining to the sale or lease of a lot or tract of land on which the sign is located or to the sale or lease of one (1) or more structures or a portion thereof on which the sign is located.

Wall Sign. A sign fastened to or painted on a wall of a structure in such a manner that the wall becomes merely the supporting structure or forms the background surface and which does not project more than twelve (12) inches from such structure.

Window Sign. Any sign, pictures, symbol or combination thereof, designed to communicate information about an activity, business, commodity, event, sale or service, that is placed inside a window or upon the window panes or glass and is visible from the exterior of the window.

A. 
Gross Area Of Sign. The area of every sign shall be calculated as follows:
1. 
If a sign is enclosed by a box or outline, the total area (including the background) within that outline shall be deemed the sign area.
2. 
If a sign consists of individual letters, parts or symbols, the area of the one (1) imaginary square or rectangle that would completely enclose all the letters, parts or symbols shall be deemed the sign area.
3. 
In calculating sign area, only one (1) side of any double-faced sign shall be counted.
4. 
The area of signs of unusual shapes such as globes, cylinders or pyramids shall be computed as one-half (½) of the total of the exposed surfaces.
B. 
Sign Height. Sign height shall be measured from the ground elevation at the base of the sign to the highest element of the sign.

2. 
Construction signs. Twenty (20) square feet.
3. 
Identification signs. Twenty (20) square feet.

Name plate signs and window signs. One (1) square feet.

Real estate signs. Nine (9) square feet, except one (1) sign not more than thirty-two (32) square feet in area announcing the sale of lots and/or houses in a subdivision may be located on said development. Said sign shall be removed at the end of three (3) years or when seventy-five percent (75%) of the lots have been sold, whichever occurs sooner.
6. 
Political signs. Six (6) square feet.
D. 
Maximum Height. Ten (10) feet for freestanding signs, except political signs shall be no more than two (2) feet in height.
E. 
Required Setback. All signs, whether permanent or portable, shall not be located within five (5) feet from the front property line.

Allowable Signs. All signs permitted in the "C-1" District. Billboards may be permitted as a conditional use in accordance with Article X "Conditional Use Permits".

Number Of Signs Permitted. Same as "C-1", except one (1) billboard may be permitted on lots having at least five (5) acres and five hundred (500) feet of frontage along Highway 67 subject to the authorization of a conditional use permit.
C. 
Maximum Gross Surface Area. Same as "C-1" except:
1. 
Business signs — freestanding. No single freestanding sign shall exceed a gross surface area of one hundred (100) square feet.
2. 
Billboards. Three hundred (300) square feet or as required by the conditional use permit.
D. 
Maximum Height.

Freestanding signs. Same as "C-1".
2. 
Monument signs. Same as "C-1".
3. 
Billboards. Billboards shall not exceed thirty-five (35) feet above the highest elevation of the finished grade of the adjacent right-of-way unless waived by an approved conditional use permit.
E. 
Required Setback. Five (5) feet from any right-of-way line and ten (10) feet from all property lines of property zoned or being used for residential purposes.
F. 
Billboard restrictions, except as waived by a conditional use permit:
1. 
All billboards shall be within one hundred (100) feet of the Highway 67 right-of-way limits.
2. 
No billboard shall be within seven hundred fifty (750) feet of another billboard measured linearly along the centerline of Highway 67.
3. 
No billboard shall be within one hundred twenty-five (125) feet of any residential property.
4. 
The location, dimensions and design shall be subject to an approved conditional use permit.

A. 
Additional Height Requirements. All projecting signs in commercial districts shall be a minimum of ten (10) feet above the street elevation.
B. 
Signs At Or Near Streets And Intersections. All signs, whether permanent or portable, shall not be in the triangle area formed by the intersecting street lines and a straight line adjoining said street lines at points which are thirty (30) feet distant from the point of intersection, measured along said street line.
C. 
Scenic And Historic Sites. No billboards shall be located nearer than one thousand (1,000) feet from an area that has been designated as a historic or scenic area by the City, County, State or Federal agency.
D. 
Flashing Or Moving Signs. Any illuminated sign on which the artificial light is not constant in intensity and color at all times. For the purpose of this regulation, any sign that is revolving, rotating, moving, animated, has moving lights or creates the illusion of movement shall be considered a flashing sign.
1. 
No flashing signs shall be permitted.
2. 
A sign which displays the current time and/or temperature by use of intermittent lighting shall not be deemed a flashing sign if the lighting changes are limited to text indicating time, temperature or other public messages. Such sign shall not in any case exceed thirty-two (32) square feet in area.
E. 
Prohibited Signs.
1. 
Signs on public property. Any sign installed or placed on public property, except in conformance with the requirements, shall be forfeited to the public and subject to confiscation, except that logo signs on public athletic fields shall be allowed. In addition to other remedies hereunder, the City shall have the right to recover from the owner or person placing such a sign the full costs of removal and disposal of such sign.
2. 
Obscene or indecent advertisement. No person shall display upon any sign or other advertising structure any obscene, indecent or immoral matter.
3. 
Portable display signs, with or without wheels attached. Portable display signs shall not be allowed.
4. 
Off-site temporary display signs. Temporary signs advertising the sale of any product or service shall be prohibited, except temporary display signs may be permitted on the lot of a business for which the sign is advertising.
5. 
Signs on trees or utility poles. No sign shall be attached to any utility pole or tree.

A. 
Sign Permits Required. Permits are required for every sign erected or constructed in the City of Desloge, except for name plates, political signs, for sale or rent signs. Application for a sign permit shall be made on forms provided by the City along with proof of agreement by the owner of the land on which the sign will be located and the person, firm or company erecting the sign (if land is not owned by the applicant).
B. 
Application for permits shall be filed with the Planning and Zoning Commission, together with a check payable to the City of Desloge to cover the processing fee and application fee for each sign specified hereunder:
1. 
All permits are subject to a twenty-five dollar ($25.00) processing fee which will be collected when applying for a permit. This processing fee is not refundable.
2. 
Application fee.
a. 
0 to 24 square feet: $25.00.
b. 
25 to 49 square feet: $50.00.
c. 
50 to 99 square feet: $75.00.
d. 
100 to 199 square feet: $150.00.
e. 
200 to 300 square feet: $300.00.
f. 
Each additional 50 square feet add: $25.00.
g. 
Footing inspections, each: $25.00.
h. 
Electrical inspections, each: $25.00.
i. 
Final inspection: $25.00.

Each billboard and each sign one hundred (100) square feet or larger in size shall pay an annual sign permit fee of fifteen dollars ($15.00). Said fee shall be payable on or before April first (1st) of each year.
