There is hereby continued a Department of Streets and Sanitation
for the City of Pittston, which shall be responsible for the following
operations:
A. Maintenance of all City streets and highways.
B. Maintenance of all City parks and recreation areas.
C. Maintenance of the City storm sewer system.
D. Maintenance of the City sanitary sewer system.
E. Collection of refuse/garbage as set forth by City ordinance.
F. Collection of recycling as set forth by City ordinance.
G. Maintenance of public property and public buildings.
H. Winter maintenance of City streets and City property.
I. Assistance to the Office of Property Maintenance Code Enforcement
in the securing and exterior property maintenance of abandoned and
derelict properties.
J. Support of the Emergency Management Agency during declared emergencies.
K. Maintenance of all Departmental vehicles and equipment.
L. All other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the City Administrator,
City Council and applicable City ordinances and resolutions.

A. Department head. In accordance with the Home Rule Charter (Pittston City Code §
C2.05F), the City Council shall, by resolution, appoint the Department Head (Superintendent) for the Department of Streets and Sanitation. The Director of Operations (Pittston City Code Chapter
7, §
7-2A) may be appointed to serve in this capacity.
B. Other leadership. The City Administrator may appoint a Deputy Superintendent,
Assistant Superintendent, and working foremen as determined necessary
and within the appropriations of the budget, but there is no requirement
to fill any such positions.
