Within twenty (20) days after the annual election in each year,
the Mayor and Board of Aldermen may appoint a Director of Public Works
who shall hold his/her office for one (1) year or until his/her successor
is appointed and qualified unless sooner removed from office by the
Mayor and the Board of Aldermen.

A. The
powers and duties of the Director of Public Works shall be as follows:
1. Supervise the employees of the Public Works Department and the operation
of same, together with such persons as may be employed from time to
time as employees of the Public Works Department.
2. Supervise all street and park maintenance.
3. Supervise all maintenance of City buildings, parking facilities and
public land.
4. Supervise the maintenance of street lighting and sweeping.
5. Supervise the operation of the rabies and mosquito control.
6. Supervise services and maintenance of trees on City easements.
7. Supervise the removal and treatment of snow and ice on the streets
and public property.
8. Supervise the deposits of and releases of deposits and bonds for
excavation permits issued for work done by private contractors in
streets or City easements.
9. Supervise the meeting of the requirements of the trash hauling contracts.
10. Supervise and make purchases of all necessary supplies, materials
and equipment which are properly authorized.
11. Supervise the purchase of all other equipment as approved and authorized
by the Mayor and the Board of Aldermen.
12. Supervise the maintenance and general repair and upkeep of City equipment.
13. Prepare such annual budgets and other monthly special reports as
may be requested by the Mayor and/or the Board of Aldermen.
14. Make reports to the Mayor and Board of Aldermen from time to time,
as directed by the Mayor and Board of Aldermen, on the progress of
public works and the need for new projects, keep all necessary payroll
records and other records requested by the Mayor and Board of Aldermen
and submit all bills for material and supplies purchased by him/her
for the construction and maintenance work to the City Finance Officer
for payment after payment thereof is authorized by the Board of Aldermen.
15. Supervise the Minimum Housing Inspector.
