A.
Appointment. There is hereby created the position of Building
Inspector, who shall be appointed by the Mayor, with the consent and
approval of the Board of Aldermen.
B.
Duties. It shall be the duty of the Building Inspector to
see to the enforcement of all ordinance provisions relating to buildings
or structures being erected or altered as frequently as may be necessary
to insure compliance with the City ordinances. The Building Inspector
shall review each application for permit received and filed with the
City Clerk.
C.
Plumbing Inspector. The Building Inspector shall act as
Plumbing Inspector and shall have all the powers and perform all the
duties connected with that office; he/she shall make such inspections
as shall assure compliance with the City's Plumbing Code Ordinance.
D.
Electrical Inspector. The Building Inspector shall act as
Electrical Inspector and shall have all the powers and perform all
the duties connected with that office; he/she shall make such inspections
as shall assure compliance with the City's Electrical Code Ordinance.
E.
Mechanical Inspector. The Building Inspector shall act as
Mechanical Inspector and shall have all the powers and perform all
the duties connected with that office; he/she shall make such inspections
as shall assure compliance with the City's Mechanical Code Ordinance.
F.
Stop Order. The Building Inspector shall have the power
to order all work stopped on construction or alteration or repair
of buildings in the City when such work is being done in violation
of any provision of any ordinance relating thereto or in violation
of the zoning ordinance. Work shall not be resumed after the issuance
of such an order except on the written permission of the Inspector;
provided, that if the stop order is an oral one, it shall be followed
by a written stop order within an hour. Such written stop order may
be served by any Policeman.
G.
Entry Powers. The Building Inspector shall have the power
to make or cause to be made an entry into any building or premises
where the work of altering, repairing or constructing any building
or structure is going on, for the purpose of making inspections, at
any reasonable hour.
H.
Fees And Compensation. The Building Inspector shall be paid
such compensation as shall be fixed by the Board of Aldermen. All
fees paid for building inspections shall be accounted for by the City
Clerk and on a monthly basis paid to the City Treasurer for general
revenue purposes.
