A Director of Public Works shall be appointed by the Mayor with
the consent and approval of the majority of the members of the Board
of Aldermen. The Director of Public Works shall serve at the pleasure
of the Mayor and Board of Aldermen.

The Director of Public Works need not be a resident or voter
of the City. If a resident, however, no such person shall be appointed
Director of Public Works who shall at the time be in arrears for any
unpaid City taxes or forfeiture or defalcation in office.

The Director of Public Works shall be responsible for the maintenance
and repair of the public streets, grounds, buildings and equipment
of the City. The Public Works Director shall be vigilant as to the
conditions of the public streets, grounds, buildings and equipment
of the City and shall report periodically to the Mayor and Board of
Aldermen on such matters. The Public Works Director shall also be
responsible for building and occupancy inspections and periodic exterior
and all other inspections of all property within the City as to compliance
with applicable City ordinances. The Director of Public Works shall
coordinate necessary repairs to the City public streets, grounds,
buildings and equipment of the City in conjunction with the City Engineer
and shall cooperate with the City Clerk concerning community development
projects. The Director of Public Works shall also assist the Board
of Aldermen and Planning and Zoning Commission in administration of
matters pertaining to the zoning regulations of the City.

The Director of Public Works shall receive such compensation
for performing the duties of that office as shall be fixed by ordinance
from time to time.
