The Charter may be amended in the manner prescribed by the General
Statutes.
If any Section or part of any Section shall be held invalid
by a court of competent jurisdiction, such holding shall not affect
the remainder of the Charter or the context in which such Section
or part thereof so held invalid may appear, except to the extent that
an entire Section or part of a Section may be inseparably connected
in meaning and effect with the Section or part of a Section to which
such holding shall directly apply.
In general, the Charter shall be subject to the provisions of
the General Statutes, and in the event that the Charter and the General
Statutes conflict, the General Statutes shall govern. Notwithstanding
the foregoing, to the extent that it is legally permissible under
the terms of the State's Home Rule Act and judicial interpretations
thereof for the Charter to contain terms that are inconsistent with
other provisions of the General Statutes, such terms of the Charter
shall govern.
Use of the term "Selectman" or "Selectmen" is not meant to refer
exclusively to the male gender, and all such references shall be construed
as inclusive of both genders.
All ordinances of the Town shall continue in full force and
effect, except insofar as they are inconsistent with the provisions
of the Charter. All special acts or parts of special acts relating
to the Town of Weston, except those expressly retained by or in the
provisions of the Charter are repealed. The special acts or parts
thereof set forth in Appendix B are retained.
This amended and restated Charter shall become effective on
the day following its adoption by the Resident Electors.
