Be it enacted, etc., as follows:
Section 2 of chapter 45 of the acts of 1933 is hereby amended by striking out the first paragraph and inserting in place thereof the following paragraph:-
The voters of each precinct in the town of South Hadley shall elect by ballot from residents of the precinct town Meeting members, other than the offices designated in section three of this act as town Meeting members ex officiis, forty-two registered voters. The first third in the order of votes received of members elected at such annual election in each precinct shall serve until the third succeeding annual election, the second third in the order of votes received at such election shall serve until the second succeeding annual election, and the remaining third in the order of votes received at such election shall serve until the first succeeding annual election; and thereafter except as herein provided at each annual election the voters of each precinct in the town shall in like manner, elect as town Meeting members one third of the 42 for the term of three years, and shall, at such elections, fill for the unexpired term or terms any vacancies then existing in the number of town Meeting members in the precinct.
The third paragraph of section 3 of said chapter 45 is hereby amended by striking out the first sentence and inserting in place thereof the following sentence:- Any elected town Meeting member who becomes by appointment or election one of the officers designated as town Meeting members, ex officiis, shall, upon such appointment or election retain their elected town Meeting member status; provided, however, such member shall have just one vote.
This act shall take effect on January 1st, 1988.
