The Department of Public Works Director shall have the power to hire and discharge the employees of his or her department upon the advice and consent of the City Manager, subject to the provision of any merit or civil service system, or any collective bargaining agreement. Such employees may include a Parks Director to oversee the functions as described in Section 2-82A(1).
To provide for the operation and maintenance of City-owned or controlled
parks, recreational facilities, and other facilities as assigned by
the City Manager, to enable the public to enjoy recreational amenities
and opportunities, while striving to enhance those facilities; and
To provide for the maintenance of City street and alley rights-of-way,
including, but not limited to, complete streets infrastructure (motorized
and nonmotorized transportation), the stormwater management system,
sanitary sewer collection system, urban forestry program, decorative
street lighting program, Department of Public Works facilities, and
City vehicles and equipment.
The City Manager may prescribe such duties and responsibilities of
the officers of the Department of Public Works, which are not inconsistent
with the City Charter, these ordinances, or resolutions adopted concerning
such duties and authorities under the authority of the City Charter.
