There is hereby created for the Township of Maplewood a committee known as "Sustainable Maplewood" ("Committee").

A.
The Committee shall coordinate the planning and implementation of municipal, community-based and intergovernmental sustainability projects within the Township.
B.
The Committee shall serve as Maplewood's Green Team.
C.
The Committee shall lead and coordinate the sustainability activities of the community and be the point of contact for the Township's Environmental Advisory Committee and other environmental groups within the Township.
D.
The Committee shall undertake projects such as:
(1)
Improving the energy performance of municipal, residential and commercial buildings;
(2)
Making the Township vehicle fleet more fuel efficient and encouraging non-municipal fleets to improve efficiency;
(3)
Expanding the use of renewable energy by municipal, residential and commercial users; and
(4)
Making the Township's operations more sustainable.
E.
The Committee shall ensure that sustainability principles and practices are integrated into policy, planning and development decisions of the Township and its boards and committees and provide suggestions to the Township Committee for further research and action.
F.
The Committee shall monitor and guide the Township's progress in meeting agreed-upon sustainability goals and objectives.
G.
The Committee shall coordinate Maplewood's participation with Sustainable Jersey, including maintaining Sustainable Jersey Certification at the highest feasible level.
H.
The Committee shall solicit and evaluate environmental issues and suggestions from the community.

A.
The Committee standing members shall include:
(1)
Two members of the Township Committee, one of whom shall serve as Chair of the Committee, selected annually by the Township Committee.
(2)
Township Administrator or Assistant Township Administrator.
(3)
Township Engineer/Director of the Department of Public Works.
(4)
Health Officer.
(5)
Director of Community Development.
(6)
Two representatives of the Township Environmental Advisory Committee, selected annually by the Environmental Advisory Committee.
(7)
One representative of the Maplewood Planning Board, selected annually by the Planning Board.
(8)
One representative of the Maplewood Memorial Library, selected annually by the Library.
(9)
Three members of the general public, selected annually by the Township Committee.
B.
Each member of the Committee shall have one vote.
