As used in this article, the following terms shall have the
meanings indicated:
WELLHEAD PROTECTION AREA
The surface and subsurface area surrounding a water well
or well field, supplying a public water system, through which contaminants
are reasonably likely to move toward and reach such water or well
field.

The City of Seward designates the Wellhead Protection Areas
for the purpose of protecting the public water supply system. The
boundaries of the Wellhead Protection Areas are as established based
upon a map prepared by the Nebraska Rural Water Association and adopted
by the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality Wellhead Protection
Program, dated 2001.

The City Council hereby adopts and incorporates by reference
the Wellhead Protection Plan which is captioned "City of Seward Wellhead
Protection Plan 2009/Lathrop Edition" for the purpose of protecting
the public water supply system. The boundaries of the Wellhead Protection
Area were adopted by Ordinance No. 1-02 on March 5, 2002, based on
Wellhead Protection Area Map drawn by the Nebraska Department of Environmental
Quality in September 2001.
