The raising and keeping of chickens for purely noncommercial
purposes shall be allowed anywhere within the Village of Cobleskill,
provided that the owners comply with the following requirements:
A. Shelter and pasture required. Every person keeping and/or raising
chickens must provide an adequate shelter that shields them from environmental
factors, including rain, snow and wind. No free range or roaming shall
be permitted. Additionally, all adequate shelter areas shall include
some perimeter restriction which will prevent them from flying or
escaping.
B. Setback. Adequate shelter areas, as described above, must meet a
minimum setback requirement of 15 feet from the land owner's
property line.
C. Storage of feed shall be in covered containers, which will prevent
contamination and keeps other animals and rodents from being able
to access it.
D. Nothing in this section shall be construed to allow for roosters.
Any violation of this article shall constitute a violation punishable by a fine or a civil penalty as set forth in Chapter
1, General Provisions, Article
II, General Penalty. For the purposes of enforcing the provisions of this article, appearance tickets may be issued by the Code Enforcement Officer.
