It is hereby declared to be the public policy of the Town of
Queensbury to limit to not more than 12 consecutive years the time
elected officials can serve as Town Councilperson or Town Supervisor
so that elected representatives are "citizen representatives" who
are responsive to the needs of the people and are not career politicians.
It is adopted pursuant to New York Municipal Home Rule Law § 10.
Notwithstanding any provision to the contrary contained in this
Code, no person shall be eligible to be elected to or serve in the
office of Town Councilperson or Town Supervisor if that person had
previously held such office for 12 consecutive years, unless one full
term or more has elapsed since that person last held such office.
The service of 12 years in one of the two positions shall not prohibit
immediate subsequent service in the other position. The calculation
of such twelve-year limit on consecutive service shall begin with
terms starting after the general election to be held in November 2017.
