All officers and positions of employment in the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office and Department, except the Sheriff, Undersheriff, Senior Administrative Assistant for Jail Management, Confidential Secretary to the Sheriff, are hereby placed in the classified service pursuant to the Civil Service Law of the State of New York.

Such officers and positions shall be held and filled according to the provisions of the Civil Service Law and the rules and regulations of the Department of Civil Service and the Civil Service Commission, and shall be governed and controlled and shall be subject to such Civil Service Law and such rules and regulations.
Notwithstanding the foregoing provisions, all employees in the Sheriff's Office or Department who have been continuously employed for a period of one year or longer in their respective positions prior to the effective date of this article shall be covered in their respective positions without an examination.
