A. There is established in the Township of Denville a Fire Department
which shall consist of a Department Chief, a First Assistant Chief,
a Second Assistant Chief, a Third Assistant Chief and three fire companies.
The Department Chief and the three Assistant Chiefs shall be known
as the "Board of Fire Chiefs," and such Board shall be in charge of
the Denville Fire Department subject to the control of the Public
Safety Director.
B. Commencing January 1, 1992, there shall be established the Office
of Deputy Chief. The Deputy Chief shall be a member of the Board of
Fire Chiefs and shall, in the absence of the Department Chief, assume
all of the duties of the Department Chief. Commencing January 1, 2009,
the Office of Deputy Chief shall be abolished.
C. All references to "chief engineer" contained in this chapter shall
have the same meaning as Department Chief.
The three fire companies shall have geographic boundaries as
follows:
A. Main Street Fire Company No. 1: Beginning at the intersection of
Franklin Avenue with the boundary line between Rockaway Borough and
Denville Township, and running thence (1) in a southerly direction
to the grade separation of the Erie-Lackawanna Railroad at Franklin
Road near the south end of Lake Estling, thence (2) in a southeasterly
direction to the southerly end of Lake Lenore, thence (3) along the
boundary line between Parsippany-Troy Hills Township and Denville
Township and along the boundary between Mountain Lakes Borough and
Denville Township in a northeasterly direction to a point approximately
3,000 feet north of Pocono Road, thence (4) perpendicular to the boundary
between Mountain Lakes Borough and Denville Township in a northwesterly
direction to Norris Road, thence (5) in an easterly direction to the
intersection of Diamond Spring Road and Morris Avenue, thence (6)
in a northwesterly direction to Cedar Lake Road to a point approximately
midway between Morris Avenue and Cedar Lake East, thence (7) in a
northwesterly direction to the westerly end of Woodland Road, thence
(8) in a northeasterly direction along the rear line of lots fronting
on the southeasterly side of Hillcrest Drive and continuing on the
projection of this line in a northeasterly direction to the boundary
between the Township of Boonton and the Township of Denville, thence
(9) along said boundary in a northwesterly direction to an angle point
in said boundary, thence (10) in a northwesterly direction to the
intersection of Old Beach Glen Road and Ford Road, thence (11) along
the Township of Denville boundary line generally in a southerly direction
its various courses to the point and place of beginning.
B. Union Hill' Fire Company No. 2: Beginning at the intersection of
Franklin Avenue and the boundary between the Borough of Rockaway and
the Township of Denville and running thence (1) in a southerly direction
along the Township of Denville boundary line its various courses to
the intersection of the boundary between the Township of Denville
and the Township of Randolph and the boundary between the Township
of Denville and the Township of Parsippany-Troy Hills and running
thence (2) in a northeasterly direction along the boundary between
the Township of Denville and the Township of Parsippany-Troy Hills
to the third corner of Fire Company No. 1 hereinbefore described and
running thence (3) in a reversed direction along the second and first
courses of the said Fire Company No. 1 as hereinbefore described to
the place of beginning.
C. Valley View Fire Company No. 3: Beginning at the intersection of
Diamond Spring Road and Morris Avenue and running thence (1) along
the sixth line to the seventh corner of Fire Company No. 1 hereinbefore
described, thence (2) along the seventh line to the eighth corner
of Fire Company No. 1, thence (3) along the eighth line to the ninth
corner of Fire Company No. 1, thence (4) along the ninth line to the
tenth corner of Fire Company No. 1, thence (5) along the tenth line
to the eleventh corner of Fire Company No. 1, thence (6) in a northeasterly
direction along Old Beach Glen Road to its intersection with the boundary
between Township of Boonton and the Township of Denville, thence (7)
in a southwesterly direction along said boundary line to the above
described fifth corner and angle point in said boundary line, thence
(8) in a southeasterly direction along said boundary line and in part
along the above described fourth course to another angle point in
said boundary line, thence (9) in a southwesterly direction along
said boundary and along the boundary between the Township of Denville
and the Borough of Mountain Lakes to the fourth corner of Fire Company
No. 1 hereinbefore described, thence (10) along the fourth line to
the fifth corner of Fire Company No. 1, thence (11) along the fifth
line of Fire Company No. 1 to the point and place of beginning.
The eligibility standards and voting procedures for the Department's
elected offices shall be as established in the rules and regulations
promulgated by the Public Safety Director of the Township of Denville.
All officers of the Fire Department shall be furnished with
a badge of office which shall be worn during the officer's term of
office as an emblem of authority.

There shall be a First Aid Squad within the Fire Department,
and each active member of the Fire Department shall automatically
be a member of the First Aid Squad. The First Aid Squad shall have
the following officers: one Captain (who shall be under the direct
supervision of the Department Chief) and three lieutenants, who shall
be elected from the ranks of the three fire companies.

A. All members of the Fire Department shall be citizens of the United
States, residents of the Township, and at least 18 years of age at
the time they join. A member who moves outside of the Township but
lives within two miles of any Township border, said distance to be
measured along publicly maintained roadways, may remain a member of
the Department. Members who reside outside of the Township and live
within two miles of any Township border, said distance to be measured
along publicly maintained roadways, on the effective date of this
subsection may remain members of the Department.
B. All members shall be appointed by the Public Safety Director. Approval
by the Department Chief of such application for membership is required
as a condition precedent to appointment. All members of the Fire Department
shall serve without pay, but may be given such allowances as may be
determined by the Township Council.
The Township Clerk shall keep a roster of the members of the
Fire Department which shall include the names, addresses, ages, date
of appointment, and such other information as the Township Council
shall require.
