In situations where, in the Township's opinion, BOD is
not representative of the strength of industrial and commercial discharges,
and/or COD tests are better for process control purposes, testing
for COD may be substituted for testing for BOD. Where monitoring for
COD is required in a permit or permit amendment, the permittee will
usually not be required to monitor for BOD. However, if there is a
need to know the site's BOD loading as a percentage of the plant's
design capacity, testing for both BOD and COD may be required.
