The Village of Oxford requires all dogs in the Village, whether licensed or not, to be restrained by a leash not longer than six feet while off the owner's premises; and accompanied by its owner or a responsible person and is under full control of such owner or person: provided, however, that dogs are permitted to be unleashed while off the owner's premises when on the premises of another person with such other person's consent. No person who owns, keeps, harbors or has the care, custody or control of any dog in the Village shall permit such dog to be at large or unleashed in said Village except as permitted by this article.
Any person violating any provision of the article shall, upon conviction thereof, be punishable by a maximum fine of $250 or by imprisonment for not more than 15 days, or both, on the first offense. On a subsequent offense, the person shall be fined a minimum of $50 and not more than $500, or by imprisonment of not more than 15 days, or both.
Any Town Dog Control officer, Village Police officer or other person or persons who are or may be lawfully authorized by the Village may administer and enforce the provisions of this article and for such purpose shall have the authority to issue appearance tickets.
