In addition to the definition and word usage provided for in §
41-4, the following words and phrases shall have the specific definitions provided throughout this chapter:
APPLICATION
An application for examination by the Commission as eligible
for appointment to the Police Force, as eligible for reinstatement
to the Police Force, or as eligible for promotion or commission.
CERTIFICATION
The list submitted to the Board by the Commission of the
names of the three highest qualified candidates taken from an eligible
list.
CHAIRMAN
The elected Chairman of the Pine Grove Civil Service Commission.
ELIGIBLE
A person whose name is recorded on a current eligible list,
furlough list, or promotion list.
ELIGIBLE LIST
A list of names of persons who have passed the required Commission
examination, the physical examination, and has the other basic qualifications
for a position on the Police Force.
FURLOUGH LIST
The list of names of persons temporarily laid off from positions
on the Police Force because of a reduction in the number of policemen.
PAY CLASSIFICATION
A salary, wage rate, or range of salary or wage rate established
within ranks or differential of salary assigned to special duty categories.
PROBATIONER
A policeman on the Police Force who has been appointed from
an eligible list, but who has not yet completed his work-test, or
probationary, period.
PROMOTION LIST
A list of names of policemen on the Police Force who have
passed the required Commission examination and have fulfilled the
other basic requirements for promotion or commission.
RANK
The classification of a policeman which establishes his position
within the Police Force.
RATING
The combination of years of service, duty category, and special
duty categories which establishes a policeman's position among
policemen of the same rank.
REDUCTION IN RANK
A change to a different position within the Police Force
which may, or may not, result in a decrease in pay classification.
REMOVAL
The permanent suspension of a policeman, a dismissal from
the Police Force.
SUSPENSION
The temporary separation of a policeman from his position
in the Police Force.
TOUR
A shift or tour of duty; the time period, including any overtime,
established for a policeman to be on patrol or other duty assignment.
