Restriction of Commercial Trucks in School Zones.

(1) 
Definitions. For the purposes of this section, the following definitions shall apply:
COMMERCIAL TRUCKS
In accordance with the provisions of § 200-11A, all trucks or commercial vehicles in excess of the indicated maximum gross weights are hereby excluded from the following streets or parts of streets.
SCHOOL ZONE
As defined N.J.S.A. 39:1-1, the State Statutory Definition of School.
SCHOOL HOURS
The period from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on days when school is in session.
(2) 
Restrictions.
(a) 
Prohibited Operation: No commercial truck shall operate on any road within a designated school zone during school hours.
(b) 
Signage: Appropriate signage indicating "No Commercial Trucks During School Hours" shall be installed at all entry points to school zones.
(c) 
Exceptions: Emergency vehicles and public transportation buses are exempt from this restriction. Commercial trucks making local deliveries or pickups within the school zone may be exempt, provided no alternative route is feasible
(3) 
Enforcement and Penalties.
(a) 
Enforcement: The Orange Township Police Department shall enforce the provisions of this section.
(b) 
Penalties: Any person found in violation of this section shall be subject to a fine of up to $500 for each offense. Repeat offenders may face increased fines and potential impoundment of the vehicle
(4) 
Implementation. This section shall take effect immediately upon its adoption and publication as required by law. The City Council directs the appropriate municipal departments to take necessary actions for the installation of signage and dissemination of information regarding this restriction. (5) 
Purpose The purpose of thissecton is to restrict the operation of heavy trucks on roads within designated school zones in the City of Orange Township to enhance the safety and security of school children and other pedestrians.
