The office of the Zoning Officer of the Borough of Alpha is
hereby officially created.
Appointments to the office of the Zoning Officer shall be made
by the Mayor with the advice and consent of the Council. The term
of office shall be one year, but the first term shall commence upon
the effective date of this chapter and shall expire December 31 of
the same year. Thereafter, every appointment shall be made for the
calendar year. A vacancy for the office shall be filled for the unexpired
term only. Said position shall report to the Director of Administration.
The Zoning Officer shall in a timely manner:
A. Review and examine plans of proposed structures and buildings for
compliance with state, county, and local zoning laws, ordinances,
rules, and regulations and conduct field work to ensure compliance
with zoning regulations.
B. Conduct field inspections and special investigations to ensure compliance
with state, county, and local zoning laws, ordinances, rules, and
regulations.
C. Consult with engineers, architects, owners, and contractors on compliance
issues.
D. Read and correct, as well as approve, final plans.
E. Initiate necessary legal action against violators of state, county,
and local zoning laws, ordinances, rules, and regulations.
F. Conduct office work and prepare needed reports.
G. Establish and maintain needed records and files, including those
of inspections and investigations.
H. Attend meetings of municipal agencies and the municipal land use
board, as requested.
I. Appear and testify in the municipal court or other appropriate courts,
boards and agencies to obtain compliance with all laws and ordinances.
J. Submit monthly reports of inspections made and outcomes to her/his
director.
K. Collect and record permit and other fees, issue permits, and verify
that required prior approvals have been obtained and is responsible
for ensuring that these actions are in accord with state, county,
and local zoning laws, ordinances, rules, and regulations.
L. Utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and computerized
information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
M. Conduct such further action under her/his office that is appropriate
under the Code of the Borough of Alpha and state, county, and local
zoning laws, ordinances, rules, and regulations.
