The following speed limits are hereby established for traffic along the streets or parts of streets enumerated in this section, and regulatory and warning signs shall be erected and maintained to effect the designated speed limits as authorized by the department of transportation:
(a) 
Thirty-five miles per hour:
ALEXANDER STREET, both directions, entire length, in accordance with letter and authorization dated November 12, 1971, from the department of transportation.
BUNN DRIVE, both directions, entire length between Poor Farm Road and Harrison Street North, except when passing through the Princeton Charter School area as signed, motorists shall drive at 25 miles per hour in said school zone during recess, when children can clearly be seen or while children are going to or leaving school during opening or closing hours.
CHERRY HILL ROAD, both directions, from a point 565 feet north of the center of Foulet Drive to Rocky Hill-Mount Rose Road. (signed Cherry Valley Road)
CHERRY VALLEY ROAD, eastbound, from Province Line Road to Route U.S. 206, except 25 miles per hour when passing through the Princeton Montessori School zone during recess, when the presence of children is clearly visible from the roadway, or when the children are going to or leaving school during opening or closing hours.
GREAT ROAD, both directions, from the northernmost intersection with Great Road East to the Mercer County-Somerset County line.
HERRONTOWN ROAD, both directions, between Poor Farm Road and River Road.

Pursuant to N.J.S.A. 39:4-98.2, the chief of police is hereby designated the municipal official who may order a reduction of a regular speed limit for periods not to exceed 72 hours on segments of roadways under the township's jurisdiction when said roadways are under construction for maintenance or repairs. The chief of police is authorized to temporarily reduce said speed limits under circumstances when, in his opinion, a reduced speed limit is warranted for the public safety in and about the area of the roadway which is under construction for maintenance or repairs.
The chief of police, when desiring to execute his authority to temporarily reduce speed limits under this section, shall notify the commissioner of transportation not less than seven days before any reduced speed limit takes effect on the affected segment of the roadway. In the case of emergency situations, said notification period may be waived by the commissioner. The chief of police shall also have the responsibility to place one or more signs indicating the reduced speed limit along that portion of the affected roadway.

(a) 
No motor vehicle shall be driven over a bridge in the township if the gross weight of the vehicle and load is greater than the gross posted weight limit of the bridge.
(b) 
The owner and operator of any motor vehicle used in violation of this section shall be responsible to the township or other body politic owning or maintaining such bridge for any damage done to the bridge by reason of the violation.
(c) 
Any owner or operator violating this section shall be subject to a fine not exceeding $1,000. In default of payment thereof, imprisonment in a county jail for a period not exceeding 10 days shall be imposed.

The following school zone speed limits are hereby established for traffic along the streets or parts of streets enumerated in this section, and regulatory and warning signs shall be erected and maintained to affect the designated school zone speed limits as authorized by the New Jersey Department of Transportation:
(a) 
Along Great Road — Great Road East for both directions of traffic.
Zone 1: 40 miles per hour between the Princeton Borough corporate line - Princeton Township corporate line and the northernmost intersection of Great Road East, except for 25 miles per hour when passing through the Princeton Day School zone during recess, when the presence of children is clearly visible from the roadway or while children are going to or leaving school, during opening or closing hours.
Zone 2: 35 miles per hour between the northernmost intersection of Great Road East and the Princeton Township (Mercer County) corporate line - Montgomery Township (Somerset County) corporate line, except for 25 miles per hour when passing through the Princeton Academy of the Sacred Heart School zone, while "25 MPH When Flashing" signs are operating during recess, when the presence of children is clearly visible from the roadway or while children are going to or leaving school, during opening or closing hours.

Unless another penalty is expressly provided by New Jersey Statute, every person convicted of a violation of any provision of this chapter shall be liable to a penalty of not more than $1,000 or by imprisonment for a term not exceeding 15 days or both.
