The Police Department of the City of Walhalla shall consist of a Chief and such other number of police officers as the Council may from time to time determine necessary to provide adequate police protection for the City.
All members of the Police Department shall be invested generally with all the powers, duties and responsibilities of constable within the corporate limits of the City of Walhalla or its police jurisdiction and such other powers, duties and responsibilities as may be from time to time conferred upon them by the Council and the South Carolina General Assembly. It shall be the duty of every police officer to enforce all provisions of this Code and perform such other duties as the Council may designate.

The Chief of Police shall at all times be recognized and respected by members of the Police Department as their commander and superior officer, and they shall obey all orders of the Chief. In the event of the temporary absence or disability of the Chief, an Acting Chief will be appointed, who shall have all the powers, duties and responsibilities of the Chief.
The police officers of the City, whenever necessary in the discharge of their duty, shall have authority to call the "posse comitatus" of the City to their assistance. Any person who may be so called to the assistance of any police officer shall respond to such call and render such lawful assistance as may be required. It shall be unlawful for any person to fail, neglect or refuse to respond to any such call when made.[1]
