(a)
Animals subject to impoundment.
The animal control officer may impound an animal as follows:
(1)
Any cat or dog not exhibiting evidence of being vaccinated and licensed as provided in this chapter;
(2)
Any animal kept under conditions which could endanger the lives or health of any person or animal, such as a rabid animal;
(4)
Any animal running at-large;
(5)
Any animal treated in a manner determined by the animal control officer and verified by a licensed veterinarian to be cruel or inhumane;
(6)
Any animal that has bitten a human being or requires observation for suspected cases of rabies; or
(7)
Any animal found in violation of any provision of this chapter.
(d)
Redemption of animal by owner.
The animal control officer shall make a reasonable effort to contact the owner of any animal impounded. The owner may resume possession of the impounded animal upon:
(e)
Unlawful removal of animal.
A person commits an offense if they remove or attempt to remove an animal from the city animal shelter without first paying all impoundment, maintenance, and other fees assessed.
(f)
Place for impoundment.
The city manager shall select and establish a place for impounding all animals impounded under any provision of this chapter.
(g)
Vaccination of adopted animal.
A person may not adopt an animal older than three (3) months of age until the animal has obtained a rabies vaccination.
