There is hereby created and established the Department of Public Safety for the Town, for the protection of life and property from hazardous situations, for the giving of aid, and for the suppression and prevention of crime and fire.

It shall be the duty of the Director of the Department of Public Safety to:
(1) 
Plan, administer, and coordinate the municipal public safety program involving law enforcement, police patrol, and fire prevention and control;
(2) 
Direct the activities of the Chiefs of the Police and Fire Departments; and
(3) 
Perform related work as required.

A Public Safety Officer shall have the same powers, duties and responsibilities as any member of the Town Police and Fire Departments, and all powers conferred upon same as set forth in the charter, the Code of Ordinances of the Town, and the statutes of the State.
