(a) The chief
of police of the Town of Double Oak, Texas is hereby authorized and
directed to make recommendations to the town council for the placement
of stop signs within the Town of Double Oak. Upon approval of those
recommendations, the chief of police is hereby authorized and directed
to erect stop signs at the designated locations and to maintain stop
signs as listed in the traffic register. The traffic register shall
be maintained by the town secretary and chief of police and may be
amended by the town council as recommended by the chief of police.
Said stop signs shall be designed, erected and located in conformity
with and as provided by the Uniform Manual of Traffic Control Devices
of the State of Texas.
(b) The chief
of police shall file a report with the town secretary showing where
such signs are located. Such report so filed shall be deemed a public
record and admissible in all courts.
(c) Except
when directed to proceed by a police officer or traffic control sign,
signal, or device, every driver of a vehicle approaching a stop intersection
indicated by a stop sign shall cause such vehicle to come to a complete
stop immediately prior to entering the crosswalk on the near side
of the intersection or, in the event there is no crosswalk, shall
stop at a clearly marked stop line, but if none, then at the point
nearest the intersecting roadway where the driver has a view of approaching
traffic on the intersecting roadway before entering the intersection.
(d) Traffic
control signs, signals, devices, and markings previously placed or
erected by an authorized officer or agent of the town and now in use
for the purpose of regulating, warning, or guiding traffic, including
stop signs already in place, are affirmed, ratified, and declared
to be official traffic control devices, provided that such devices
are not inconsistent with the provisions of state law or this code.
