The municipal court of the city is hereby authorized and required to assess a municipal court technology fee (the “fee”), as defined in article 102.0172(d) of the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure, in the amount of four and no/100 dollars ($4.00), against all defendants convicted of a misdemeanor offense in the municipal court. Each misdemeanor conviction shall be subject to a separate assessment of the fee.

A person convicted for a misdemeanor offense in municipal court shall be assessed a fee of three and no/100 dollars ($3.00) as court costs for each said offense. The clerk of the court for deposit shall collect the fee to a special fund designated as the municipal court security fund. Money in the fund may be used only to finance items as enumerated in the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure, article 102.017, when such items are used for the purpose of providing security services for buildings housing a municipal court. The funds shall be administered under the direction of the city council pursuant to Texas Code of Criminal Procedures, article 102.017.
