(a)
Office created; assistants authorized.
There is hereby created the office of electrical inspector of the city, within which there may be assistant electrical inspectors.
(b)
Qualifications.
The person chosen to fill the office of electrical inspector or assistant electrical inspector shall be of good moral character, shall be possessed of such executive ability as is requisite for the performance of his duties, and shall have a thorough knowledge of the standards of materials and duties and methods of construction for safety to persons and property, the statutes of the state relating to electrical work and any orders, rules and regulations issued by authority thereof, and the National Electrical Code, as approved by the National Fire Protection Association.
(c)
Appointment and salary.
The director of public works shall appoint the electrical inspector and any assistant(s) necessary to aid him in the performance of his duties. The electrical inspector and any assistant(s) shall serve for an indefinite period of time and shall be subordinate to and subject to discharge by the director of public works. The salaries of the electrical inspector and his assistant(s) shall be fixed by the mayor and city council.
(d)
Prohibited interests.
The electrical inspector and any assistant electrical inspector shall not work for or be connected or associated with any master electrician or electrical supply company or do any electrical work while employed as electrical inspector or assistant.
