The Township Committee finds that the obstruction of view of
vehicular traffic by untrimmed plant growth located on private property
close to roadway intersections is hazardous to the public health,
safety and welfare, and that the Chief of Police should determine
when and where it shall be necessary and expedient for the preservation
of the public safety to notify owners or occupants of such property
cut the plant growth so as to remove the safety hazards.
Owners and occupants of all lands within Bordentown Township are required to keep all brush, hedges and other plant life growing within 25 feet of any intersection of two roadways cut to a height of not more than 2 1/2 feet. This requirement shall be independent of, and in addition to, any requirement imposed by any other applicable Bordentown Township ordinance including, but not limited to, Chapter
500, Land Development, and Chapter
355, Property Maintenance.
Whenever the Chief of Police shall reasonably determine that
conditions on any property are in violation of this chapter and that
the public safety requires cutting of brush, hedges or other plant
life growing on property, the Chief of Police shall cause written
notice to be served upon the owner or owners of the property, and/or
the occupant or occupants if different from the owner or owners, directing
that person or persons, within 10 days after receipt of the notice,
to cut the brush, hedges or other plant life so as to comply with
the requirements of this chapter. The notice shall inform the persons
served of the consequences of failure to comply.
