[Adopted as Ch. 2.88 of the 2003 Municipal Code; amended at time of adoption of Code (see Ch. 1, General Provisions, Art. I)]
Pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40A:9-148, there shall be a Municipal Tax Assessor who shall be appointed by the Township Committee for a term of four years to commence on the first day of July next following appointment. The person appointed as Tax Assessor shall possess the necessary qualifications and certificates and education for said position as required by law. The Tax Assessor shall serve in said office until a successor is appointed and qualified. In the event of a vacancy in the office of the Tax Assessor, the Township Committee shall fill the vacancy for the unexpired term. The Tax Assessor shall receive such compensation as shall be prescribed by ordinance.
The Tax Assessor shall:
A. 
Establish the assessments for the Township in accordance with applicable law.
B. 
Supervise the work of the Department and its employees.
C. 
Perform such other duties as shall be prescribed by law.
The Township Committee may appoint a Deputy Tax Assessor. The Deputy Tax Assessor shall assist in the operation of the Assessor's office and, in the absence of the Tax Assessor, shall perform all the duties of the office as permitted by law. The Deputy Tax Assessor shall receive such compensation as prescribed by Ordinance.
