The 2020 edition of the National Electrical Code, as recommended by the National Fire Protection Association, is hereby adopted and incorporated by reference and made a part hereof, as if fully and completely set out herein, as the electrical code of the city, except for any penalties contained therein, subject to and including by reference such amendments, corrections and additions in this article. The following are amendments or additions to the code adopted in section 3.03.031:
(1) 
No aluminum wire is to be used in any structure.
(2) 
All new wiring in nonresidential structures must be in conduit.
(3) 
There shall be no plastic switch boxes or junction boxes in any commercial or other nonresidential building.
(4) 
Number 14 wire will be used only for switch legs.
(5) 
There shall be an eight-foot ground rod of copper weld or galvanized driven by each meter loop.
(6) 
All main service disconnects must be located in a readily accessible location outside the building.
(7) 
There shall be no customer-owned meter loops or service risers located on any city-owned utility poles.
(8) 
The minimum conductor size for single phase meter loops shall be as follows:
(A) 
100 amp: #2 copper.
(B) 
125 amp: #1 copper.
(C) 
150 amp: 1/0 copper.
(D) 
200 amp: 3/0 copper.
(E) 
The grounded conductor shall be permitted to be one (1) size smaller than the ungrounded conductors.

In the event of a conflict between the provisions of the electrical code adopted and incorporated in section 3.03.031 and this Code of Ordinances, the provisions of this Code of Ordinances shall prevail.

Any person violating any provision of the electrical code adopted by this article shall be subject to the penalty provided in section 1.01.009.
