A. 
Full-time employees who have completed their probationary period or any extension thereof may take up to eight weeks of paid maternity leave for the purpose of giving birth or adopting a child.
B. 
Full-time employees who have completed their probationary period or any extension thereof who are fathers or are in the act of becoming a parent and not the one giving birth may take up to four weeks of paid paternity leave.
C. 
Additional leave is provided under the Family and Medical Leave Act and employees may use accrued leave or take unpaid leave as permitted by law.
Applications for maternity/paternity leave shall be made in writing and transmitted to the City Administrator in as much advance of the leave request as possible, and shall be maintained in the payroll and personnel records as required for auditing purposes.
