[HISTORY: Adopted by the Board of Supervisors of the Township of Patton 4-12-1977 by Ord. No. 148 (Ch. 78 of the 1996 Code). Amendments noted where applicable.]
[Amended 8-14-1996 by Ord. No. 96-330]
The Fire Marshal or the Chief of Police of Patton Township shall determine when the parking of motor or other vehicles on any portion of any public street or private street or shopping center or multifamily building parking lot or school parking area is likely to interfere with public safety operations, i.e., the fire company and the ambulance company, or seriously hamper egress of occupants from buildings in case of fire. When either or both so determine, they shall designate such areas, in writing, including the use of maps or sketches, designated consecutively, to the Board of Supervisors. The Board of Supervisors shall consider such recommendations and shall either approve or disapprove, by resolution, each of such designated locations. Once approved, each such location shall be added to a list, numbered consecutively, and maintained in the municipal offices of the Township. Such lists may be modified, added to or reduced from time to time by the Board of Supervisors after written recommendations by the Fire Marshal and/or the Chief of Police.
A.
Once fire lanes are established as set forth in § 181-1, such fire lanes shall be marked under the direction of the Fire Marshal, using the following appropriate methods:
(1)
By posting signs in such areas reading "Fire Lane - No Parking" in accordance with state regulations.
(2)
By painting lines four inches in width on the road or parking surface indicating the area.
(3)
By painting the words "Fire Lane - No Parking" in letters three feet in height on the roadway or parking lot surface.
B.
The marking, by whatever means designated, is the responsibility of the property owner and is to be accomplished within 30 days of notification.
In the event of an emergency or special condition whereby the Fire Marshal shall determine that the parking of vehicles is likely to interfere with the operation of the fire company in any public street or private street or shopping center or multifamily building parking lot or school parking area, they shall direct the posting of signs in such areas reading "No Parking - Temporary Fire Regulations - by order of the Fire Marshal." Such signs shall be removed at the direction of the Fire Marshal when such emergency or special condition ceases.
