Pursuant to Welfare and Institutions Code Section 881, a juvenile camp system is established in the county of Merced.

The juvenile camp system established pursuant to Section 2.99.010 of this chapter shall be under the control and management of the chief probation officer of the county of Merced, who shall appoint, with the confirmation of the board of supervisors, a superintendent/director to be in charge of the juvenile camp facilities and report to the chief probation officer. Unless otherwise specifically authorized by resolution of the Merced County board of supervisors, the director of the county of Merced juvenile hall shall concurrently serve as the superintendent/director.

Juvenile camps established pursuant to this chapter shall be operated in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to those set forth in Title 15, Chapter 1, and Title 24 of the California Code of Regulations.

The first juvenile camp established pursuant to this chapter shall be known as "The Bear Creek Academy."

Additional juvenile camps may be established pursuant to this chapter by the chief probation officer only with the consent and approval of the Merced County board of supervisors.
