There is hereby established within the Township of East Hanover
an Auxiliary Fire Company. Said Auxiliary Fire Company shall be under
the control and jurisdiction of the Fire Director, supervised by the
Fire Chief of the Township of East Hanover, and shall operate in accordance
with all rules and regulations promulgated by the Fire Director.
Membership in the East Hanover Auxiliary Fire Company shall
be limited to those persons recommended by the Township's Fire
Chief through the Fire Director and approved by the Mayor and Township
Council. Eligibility for membership shall be limited to those who
meet the following qualifications:
A. The age requirement for those members of the Auxiliary Fire Company
shall be between the ages of 18 and 55.
B. The applicant must submit, as part of his application, a medical
report by the Township's physician, based upon a medical examination
made by the Township's physician, that the applicant is physically
fit to perform the duties of an auxiliary firefighter as established
from time to time by the Fire Director of the Fire Department.
C. To be a member of the Auxiliary Fire Company, a member must be a
resident of the Township of East Hanover prior to making application
to become a member.
D. An applicant for the Auxiliary Fire Company shall be subject to a
criminal background check prior to being accepted for membership in
the Company. Evidence of a criminal conviction shall disqualify any
applicant from membership.
E. An applicant for the Auxiliary Fire Company shall be in possession
of and maintain a valid State of New Jersey driver license.
The Auxiliary Fire Company of the East Hanover Fire Department
shall be under the jurisdiction of the Fire Director, supervised by
the Fire Chief of the East Hanover Volunteer Fire Department, and
the members of the Auxiliary Fire Company shall perform such duties
as are assigned by the Fire Chief. Every member of the Auxiliary Fire
Company shall comply and abide by such rules and regulations as may
be established by the Fire Director from time to time. Failure of
a member of the Auxiliary Fire Company to abide by these rules and
regulations shall be grounds for dismissal from the Auxiliary Fire
Company, and the Fire Director shall have the right to dismiss the
one who fails to comply with said rules and regulations promulgated
by the Fire Director subject to the right of the member to appeal
said dismissal to the Mayor and Township Council.
Each member of the Auxiliary Fire Company must successfully
complete all training and have 50% attendance at meetings, drills,
and cleanups in order to continue as a member of the Auxiliary Fire
Company. These members of the Auxiliary Fire Company who meet the
aforesaid requirements and have successfully completed not less than
one year with the Auxiliary Fire Company may be eligible, upon recommendation
of the Fire Chief to the Fire Director, for transfer to the East Hanover
Volunteer Fire Department, subject to being able to meet all requirements
for membership in the East Hanover Volunteer Fire Department.
