The intent of the Public (P) District is to delineate on Claremont's Official Zoning Map the location of public uses and/or publicly owned property. No building, structure, or land shall be used, and no building or structure shall be erected, altered, or enlarged except in accordance with the provisions of this chapter.

Only the following uses are permitted in the P Public District:
A. 
Public uses, including government agencies, schools, libraries, post offices, fire stations, public safety facilities, community centers, museums, theaters, civic center, and similar local, state, or federal uses.
B. 
Governmental maintenance yards.
C. 
Utilities structures, substations, and distribution facilities, provided all equipment and appurtenances are within an enclosed structure or screened from view.
D. 
Parking facilities.
E. 
Parks.
F. 
Open space and highway landscaping.
G. 
Water treatment, retention, and distribution facilities.
H. 
Wireless communication facilities pursuant to Chapter 16.100.

The following uses may be permitted in the P Public District only with approval of a conditional use permit pursuant to Chapter 16.303: utility structures, substations, and distribution facilities where equipment and appurtenances are not within an enclosed structure or screened from view.

Development standards for the P Public District shall be determined on a site-by-site basis. Consideration shall be given to surrounding properties and developments in order to blend the developments with, and to keep it consistent with, the surrounding area. Additional factors to be considered for the determination of standards are topography, water drainage, circulation, use of site, and any other environmental factors related to the site.
