There is created a Police Commission for the City, which shall be known as the Desert Hot Springs Police Commission.

The Police Commission is an advisory body to the City Council on matters concerning the funding of police services and establishing levels of law enforcement service in the City. The Police Commission shall have the duties as outlined:
A. 
To act as an advisor between the community, Police Department, and the City Council.
B. 
To make recommendations relating to the implementation of programs and/or projects that affect public safety in the community.

The Police Commission shall adopt rules for the transaction of its business and shall keep a written record of its transactions, findings and determinations, which record shall be a public record.

A. 
Regular Meetings. The regular meetings of the Public Safety Commission shall be held at 6:00 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month, except for the months of July and August. If a regular meeting falls on a holiday, such regular meeting shall be held on the next business day.
B. 
Special Meetings. A special meeting may be called at any time by the Chairperson of the Police Commission or by a majority of the members of the Police Commission, by delivering personally or by mailing written notice to each member of the Police Commission and to each local newspaper of general circulation, radio or television station requesting notice in writing. Such notice shall be delivered personally or by mail at least 24 hours before the time of such meeting as specified in the notice. The call and notice shall specify the time and place of the special meeting and the business to be transacted. No other business shall be considered at such meetings by the Police Commission. Such written notice may be dispensed with as to any member who, at or prior to the time the meeting convenes, files with the Clerk or Secretary of the Police Commission, a written waiver of notice. Such waiver may be given by telegram. Such written notice may also be dispensed with as to any member who is actually present at the meeting at the time it convenes.

Each member of the Police Commission shall receive a salary in the amount of $100 per any officially convened Commission meeting that they attend.
