A. 
The words and phrases in this chapter, when used in this title, shall for the purpose of this title have the meanings respectively ascribed to them in this chapter.
B. 
Motor Vehicle Code Definitions to be Used. Whenever any words or phrases used in this title are not defined, but are defined in the Vehicle Code of the state of California and amendments thereto, such definitions shall apply.

"Bicycle" means a light vehicle without a motor having two wheels, handlebars and a seat or seats, and propelled by the operator.

"Central traffic district" means all streets and portions of streets listed as follows:
A. 
The east one-half of Manteca Avenue;
B. 
Both sides of Sycamore Avenue from Center Street to Yosemite Avenue;
C. 
Both sides of Maple Avenue from Center Street to Tidewater Railroad Tracks;
D. 
Both sides of Main Street from Alameda Street to Tidewater Railroad Tracks;
E. 
Both sides of Grant Avenue from Center Street to Yosemite Avenue;
F. 
Both sides of Moffat Boulevard from Main Street to Lincoln Avenue;
G. 
Both sides of Center Street from Sycamore Avenue to Grant Avenue;
H. 
Both sides of Yosemite Avenue from Rose Lane to Fremont Avenue.

"Coach" means any motor bus, motor coach, trackless trolley, or passenger stage used as a common carrier of passengers.

"Council" means the council of the city of Manteca.

"Curb" means the lateral boundary of the roadway whether such curb is marked by curbing construction, or not so marked. "Curb" as used in this title shall not include the line dividing the roadway of a street from parking strips in the center of a street, nor from tracks or rights-of-way of public utility companies.

"Divisional island" means a raised island located in the roadway and separating opposing or conflicting streams of traffic.

A. 
Within the meaning of this title, "holidays" are:
1. 
The first day of January;
2. 
The twelfth day of February;
3. 
The twenty-second day of February;
4. 
The thirtieth day of May;
5. 
The fourth day of July;
6. 
The first Monday in September;
7. 
The ninth day of September;
8. 
The twelfth day of October;
9. 
The eleventh day of November;
10. 
The twenty-fifth day of December; and
11. 
Thanksgiving Day.
B. 
If the first day of January, the twelfth day of February, the twenty-second day of February, the thirtieth day of May, the fourth day of July, the ninth day of September, the twelfth day of October, the eleventh day of November or the twenty-fifth day of December falls upon a Sunday, the Monday following is a holiday.

"Loading zone" means the space adjacent to a curb reserved for the exclusive use of vehicles during the loading or unloading of passengers or materials.

Whenever certain hours are named in this title they mean standard time or daylight saving time as may be in current use in this city.

"Park" means to stand or leave standing any vehicle, whether occupied or not, otherwise than temporarily for the purpose of and while actually engaged in loading or unloading of passengers or materials.

"Parkway" means that portion of a street other than a roadway or a sidewalk.

"Passenger loading zone" means the space adjacent to a curb reserved for the exclusive use of vehicles during the loading or unloading of passengers.

"Pedestrian" means any person afoot.

"Police officer" means every officer of the police department of this city or any officer authorized to direct or regulate traffic or to make arrests for violations of traffic regulations.

"Stop," when required, means complete cessation of movement.

"Stop or stand," when prohibited, means any stopping or standing of a vehicle, whether occupied or not, except when necessary to avoid conflict with other traffic or in compliance with the directions of a police officer or official traffic control device.

"Vehicle Code" means the Vehicle Code of the state of California.
