The city attorney shall act to protect the interests of the
city and specifically shall:
A. Provide
Legal Advice. Advise the city council or its committees or any city
official, when thereto requested, upon all legal matters pertaining
to city business;
B. Prepare
Ordinances. Frame all ordinances and resolutions required by the city
council;
C. Give
Opinions. Give his or her opinion upon any legal matter or question
submitted to him or her by the city council, or by any city official;
D. Attend
Council Meetings. Attend all city council meetings for the purpose
of giving the city council legal advice requested by its members;
E. Prepare
Legal Instruments. Prepare for execution all contracts and instruments
to which the city is a party and shall approve, as to form, all bonds
required to be submitted to the city;
F. Additional
Legal Services. Perform such other legal services required from time
to time by the city council or by any city official.

The city attorney shall receive such compensation as is allowed
by the city council from time to time.

The city council shall appoint a city attorney who shall serve
at the pleasure of the city council.
