The New Americans Integration Act shall develop and implement
programs, initiatives, and campaigns, and build partnerships with
diverse organizations and institutions aimed to:
A. Developing and distributing of a comprehensive welcoming community
toolkit.
B. Supporting job skills and professional development for new Americans.
C. Connecting new Americans to business resources to harness their entrepreneurial
spirit and nurturing entrepreneurship and small business growth.
D. Strengthening outreach to immigrants and refugees to promote awareness
of labor protections and rights.
E. Reinforcing the connections between new Americans and our communities
through civic engagement and other opportunities.
F. Increasing access to English-for-speakers-of-other-languages (ESOL)
training and expanding the opportunities for linguistic integration
and education.
G. Preparing new Americans for the naturalization process and increase
the availability of reduced-cost legal services for immigrants and
refugees.
H. Maximizing the number of young people receiving Deferred Action for
Childhood Arrivals (DACA).
I. Promoting productive engagement between new Americans and law enforcement.
J. Reducing exploitation of new Americans by scammers and con artists,
including but not limited to notario fraud.
K. Ensuring and enhancing language access at the various departments
of the Town of Dover.
L. Encouraging new Americans to volunteer and serve in their communities.
M. Enhancing opportunities for home ownership for new Americans.
N. Connecting new Americans with developmental disabilities and their
families with needed resources, information, and services.
O. Educating new Americans on the basics of our legal system and how
to navigate the different levels and branches of government and the
various services and programs available to them at the local, county,
state, and federal levels.
P. Supporting and developing programs and materials that educate new
Americans about the history, architecture, and culture of the Town
of Dover, State of New Jersey, and the United States of America.
Q. Supporting and developing programs and materials that promote respect
amongst all members of our community.
Any and all programs, initiatives, campaigns and partnerships set forth in §
249-2 of this chapter shall be implemented by the Office of the Mayor, the Town Business Administrator, the Municipal Attorney, the Constituent Affairs Coordinator, in conjunction with a Standing Committee on New Americans and Integration composed of up to three Aldermembers, who shall be appointed annually by the Mayor during the re-organization meeting. Nothing herein shall be construed as to restrict access to programs or materials created or produced pursuant to this chapter to any resident of the Town of Dover.
