Speed limits described in this article which are more than 25 miles per hour shall apply except in those areas where the highways intersect with school crossings or are adjoining school properties. In such cases, the affected segments of such highways shall carry a speed limit of 25 miles per hour during the period of 30 minutes before and 30 minutes after the opening and closing of school, or if flashing school signs are used, then the affected segments will have the speed limit of 25 miles per hour only during the time the flashers are active. All such zones and crosswalks are to be uniformly and standardly marked with the speed of 25 miles per hour designated for this section to apply. This section only applies to the segments of a highway enclosed in the school speed area; it does not apply to the whole highway or to the whole section of highway named in any other sections of this article.

No person shall operate a motor vehicle at a greater speed than 15 miles per hour in any alley within the City.

No person shall operate a motor vehicle at a greater speed than 25 miles per hour in the following listed zones of the City:
(1) 
Any street not specifically mentioned or set out in this article.
(2) 
On Alabama Highway No. 75, from its intersection with Alabama Avenue eastward to its intersection with Scott Avenue, a distance of 0.40 mile.
(3) 
On Alabama Highway No. 205, from its intersection with Emmett Street southward to its intersection with Andrew Street, a distance of 0.50 mile.

No person shall operate a motor vehicle at a greater speed than 35 miles per hour in the following zones of the City:
(1) 
On Alabama Highway No. 75, from its intersection with Carroll Street eastward to its intersection with Alabama Street, a distance of 0.40 mile.
(2) 
On Alabama Highway No. 205, from its intersection with McKinney Street southward to its intersection with Emmett Street, a distance of 0.85 mile.
(3) 
On Alabama Highway No. 205, from its intersection with Andrew Street southward to its intersection with Pine Street, a distance of 0.50 mile.
(4) 
Industrial Boulevard, from Mt. Vernon Road south to the City limits.
(5) 
Wagner Drive, from the City limits eastward to U.S. 431.
(6) 
Henderson Road (east of U.S. 431), from City limit to City limit.
(7) 
Pine Street, from Medlock Road southward to the City limits.
(8) 
Kilpatrick Road, from U.S. 431 eastward to the City limits.
(9) 
East Main Street, from U.S. 431 eastward to the City limits.
(10) 
Thomason Road, from East Main Street northeasterly to the City limits.

No person shall operate a motor vehicle at a greater speed than 40 miles per hour in the following listed zones of the City:
(1) 
On Alabama Highway No. 205 from its intersection with Pine Street southward to the southmost City limit, a distance of 2.50 miles.

No person shall operate a motor vehicle at a greater speed than 45 miles per hour in the following listed zones of the City:
(1) 
On U.S. Highway No. 431, from its intersection with Small Street southward to a point 1,000 feet south of its intersection with Scott Avenue, a distance of 1.10 miles.
(2) 
On Alabama Highway No. 75, from a point 500 feet west of its intersection with Pierce Street eastward to its intersection with Carroll Street, a distance of 0.60 mile.
(3) 
On Alabama Highway No. 205, from the northmost City limit southward to its intersection with McKinney Street, a distance of 0.90 mile.
(4) 
On Section Line Road, from its intersection with Edmondson Street west to the end of the City limits.
(5) 
On Beulah Road, from a point 0.60 mile from its intersection with U.S. Highway No. 431 southeastward to the end of the City limits.

No person shall operate a motor vehicle at a greater speed than 50 miles per hour in the following listed zones of the City:
(1) 
On Alabama Highway No. 75 from the southmost City limit northward to a point 500 feet west of Pierce Street, a distance of 0.70 mile.
(2) 
On Alabama Highway No. 75 from U.S. Highway No. 431 to a point 500 feet east of the Martling Road, a distance of 0.78 mile.

No person shall operate a motor vehicle at a greater speed than 55 miles per hour during the day in the following listed zones of the City:
(1) 
On U.S. Highway No. 431 from the northmost City limit southward to its intersection with Small Street, a distance of 0.90 mile.
(2) 
On U.S. Highway No. 431 from a point 1,000 feet south of its intersection with Scott Avenue southward to the southmost City limit, a distance of 3.40 miles.
(3) 
On Alabama Highway No. 75 from a point 500 feet east of Martling Road eastward to the eastmost City limit, a distance of 0.30 mile.

It shall be unlawful for any person to drive a motor vehicle at such a speed or in such a manner as to endanger the person or property of another upon any quasi-public or private parking lot, street or highway in the City, including but not limited to parking areas and lots adjacent to, surrounding or servicing public restaurants, shopping centers, drive-in movies, athletic stadiums, auditoriums and all other parking areas or lots which are quasi-public or private in nature but constructed and intended for the use of the public.

(a) 
It shall be unlawful for the driver or operator of any vehicle to operate a motor vehicle at a speed greater than 15 miles per hour on any street or road located in Sand Mountain Park and Amphitheater.
(b) 
The Mayor, his or her designee, the Chief of Police or his or her designee shall erect or cause to be erected appropriate signage indicating that the speed limit on said roads is restricted to a speed not greater than 15 miles per hour.
(c) 
Any person who is found guilty of the violation of this section shall be punished by a fine of $100 for the first offense. Any subsequent offense shall be punishable by a fine of not less than $100 nor more than $500 at the discretion of the judge trying the case.
