The mayor is elected at-large and serves until a successor is elected and has qualified. The mayor serves a three-year term. The mayor's regular term begins on the first Monday following the election.
No person who has completed three consecutive full terms as mayor may serve another term or portion of a term until a period of 180 days has passed since the end of his or her third consecutive full term of office. A full term of office means the regular term of office for mayor and does not include portions of a term served by appointment or election to the remainder of an unexpired term vacated by another person.
Application of the ordinance codified in this section shall be prospective only. Terms served by the mayor prior to enactment of the ordinance codified in this section shall not be considered in determining future eligibility to hold office.
