The intent of this dress code policy is to affirm that as municipal government employees, we should project a professional appearance that inspires public confidence.
This policy also recognizes the importance of providing an inclusive work environment that respects cultural, religious, and gender diversity.
This policy applies to all City employees, including full-time, part-time, temporary, and contract workers.
A.
Employees are expected to 1) dress neatly and appropriately for the type of work they are doing; and 2) present a good, professional image of the City to the public.
1.
Clothing should be maintained in good condition and as the work environment permits, clean and free from tears, holes and visible stains.
2.
Employees should ensure their personal hygiene does not offend others and does not detract from the high-quality service orientation of the City.
3.
Safety clothing and accessories (e.g., boots, vests, hard hats) must be worn when safety rules require and/or when circumstances warrant it. See Chapter 8, Safety, of the Personnel Policies Manual. Employees with specific religious or cultural attire requirements should communicate with their supervisor or Human Resources to discuss potential accommodations or modifications that do not compromise safety requirements.
The City is committed to providing reasonable accommodation for employees with disabilities, religious beliefs, or other individual circumstances that may require adjustments to meet these needs. Employees who need accommodation should discuss their needs with their supervisor or Human Resources.
If an employee’s attire or appearance does not meet the standards outlined in this policy, supervisors may address the issue privately with the employee and provide guidance on how to adhere to the dress code. If necessary, the employee may be asked to return home to change into appropriate attire.
The City will periodically review and update the dress code policy to ensure that it remains consistent with the organization’s commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility. Employees are encouraged to provide feedback on the dress code policy to their supervisors or Human Resources.
