The following guidelines are being established for the Village of Oxford
Police Department. The guidelines are for regular and part-time members of
the Department:
A. All laws are to be enforced and standard police operating
procedures are to be followed. Complaints should be filed in writing for those
events not witnessed by the officer.
B. Uniforms.
(1) Regular patrol will require uniforms at all times.
(2) Emergency call will require uniforms unless it will cause
delay in responding to the emergency.
C. High-speed chases must be avoided.
D. Officers should be qualified by the Sheriff's Department.
E. Compensation time (extra hours) should be taken as soon
as possible, not later than two weeks after occurrence.
F. Regular patrol will be village only except for village
property outside the village (i.e., village park) and emergencies when other
agencies are not available to respond. Upon arrival of another agency, our
patrol must return to the village.
G. The Sheriff's Department and State Police shall
be notified when coverage is not available during peak times.
H. The schedule of hours by regular and part-time officers
will be based on input from the Board of Trustees. The schedule shall be reviewed
regularly.
I. Accidents involving village officials or vehicles should
be handled by other police agencies.

Pursuant to § 8-800 of the Village Law, the Oxford Police
Department shall be affirmed and reestablished as of this date, September
1, 1987.
