City of Galax, VA Article II Grant, Term and Exclusivity of Franchises

§ 41-4 Grant of franchise required.

Operation of a cable television system within the City shall be permitted only upon the application for and subsequent grant of a franchise under the terms of this chapter.

§ 41-5 Term of franchise; extension.

The initial term of any franchise granted under this chapter shall be for a period of 15 years. An extension of the initial franchise term may be granted in accordance with § 41-14 of this chapter.

§ 41-6 Exclusivity.

The right to use and occupy City streets for a cable television system shall not be exclusive, and the City reserves the right to grant a similar use of said streets to any person, company, corporation or other entity at any time during the initial or subsequent period of any cable television franchise.
