The Fire Department of the Village shall consist of a Fire Chief, Assistant Chiefs and such fire fighters as are or may from time to time be appointed by the Village Board of Trustees.
The Fire Chief shall have full power at fires to order and direct the fire fighters in the management of their engines and other apparatus provided for the extinguishment of fires.
The Fire Chief shall report annually to the Trustees, and as often as required, the condition of the engines and other apparatus of the Fire Department and recommend such alterations or improvements in the same as the Fire Chief may think proper and also shall report the names of such fire fighters as have disobeyed orders or neglected or refused to attend to their duties.
Whenever the engines or other apparatus of the Fire Department shall be in need of repairs, the Fire Chief, with the consent of the Village Board of Trustees, shall cause the same to be done promptly.
The fire fighters of the Village shall be divided into companies, to consist of such persons as the Village Board of Trustees shall from time to time direct, and limited to the number specified by said Board, to attend to the fire engines, hose or other apparatus belonging to the Village.
The Village fire companies each shall be under the control and direction of a foreman and assistants, and, upon any alarm of fire, said companies shall immediately repair to the place of the fire, with the engines, hose, hooks and ladders, and other implements under their care, and there work and manage the same, under the direction of the Fire Chief, and, in case of his absence, shall place and work their apparatus in the most effectual manner until the fire shall be extinguished and shall not remove therefrom except with the permission of the officer in charge, and on such permission they shall return their respective engines and apparatus to their respective places of storage.
The fire fighters of the Village shall report themselves to the Fire Chief at every fire, and said fire fighters, when attending fires, shall be subject to the direction of the Fire Chief, and it shall be the duty of said fire fighters, immediately upon an alarm of fire, to repair to the place of the fire and to aid and assist as the Fire Chief may direct. It shall be the duty of said fire fighters to prevent the fire hose from being trodden upon and to keep all idle and suspected persons from the vicinity of the fire. They shall also have authority to require assistance of Village citizens if requisite to aid in the extinguishment of fires and the preservation of property exposed to damage thereat, and the citizens are hereby enjoined to comply with the orders and directions of said fire fighters.
Any person who shall repair to a fire shall be obedient to the orders of the Fire Chief in the extinguishment of fires and in the removal of property.
The officer having charge of fire engines or other apparatus shall have the same kept in the best order for immediate use and report immediately to the Fire Chief its condition.
No person shall ride on any fire truck or fire apparatus owned by the Village at any time, except a duly appointed fire fighter of the Village.
It shall be unlawful to falsely, wilfully and designedly alarm the citizens of the Village by a cry of fire.
A reward of $100 shall be paid for information leading to the arrest and conviction of any person who has given a false alarm of fire in the Village.
It shall be unlawful for any person to cut or injure in any manner any hose, fire engine or other apparatus provided for the extinguishment of fires belonging to the Village.
