The words and phrases used in this chapter shall,
for the purpose of this chapter, have the meanings respectively ascribed
to them by Article 1 of the Vehicle and Traffic Law of the State of
New York.
The Board of Trustees shall provide for the
installation and maintenance of traffic control devices when and as
required under the provisions of this chapter, to make effective the
provisions of said chapter, and may provide for the installation and
maintenance of such additional traffic control devices as it may deem
necessary to regulate, warn or guide traffic under the Vehicle and
Traffic Law of the State of New York, subject to the provisions of
§§ 1682 and 1684 of that law.
A person must not drive a vehicle equipped with
metal lugs, spuds or dogs on any street or highway in the Village,
exclusive of state highways, unless a permit in writing is obtained
from the Mayor or a member of the Board of Trustees, which permit
must prescribe the precautions to be taken to prevent injury to pavements
and bridges, and such vehicles must not be driven upon or through
any street or portion of a street or highway other than those designated
in said permit or in any manner different from that specified in said
permit.
All fire-fighting vehicles, police vehicles
and emergency vehicles shall be exempt from this Village traffic chapter,
provided that they are acting in their official capacity with due
regard for the safety and welfare of the residents of the Village
of South Glens Falls.
