The Borough, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40A:14-156.1, hereby establishes a
reciprocal agreement with each and every municipality within the County of
Bergen for intermunicipal police assistance and fire assistance at times of
any and all police and fire emergencies. This chapter shall become effective
as to each and every other municipality within the County of Bergen at such
time as the municipality has in the past adopted or may in the future adopt
an ordinance providing for the same terms and conditions set forth herein.
If any member of the Borough's Police Force, Fire Department or Ambulance
Corps is summoned to provide services outside the Borough pursuant to an agreement
to render assistance and suffers injury or death in the performance of his
duties, he or his legal designee or legal representative shall be entitled
to such salary, pension rights, workmens' compensation or other benefits as
would have accrued if such injury or death had occurred in the performance
of duties within the Borough. The Borough shall make no claims for reimbursement
from any municipality for damages, injuries, wages and the like for aid rendered
by members of its Police Department, Fire Department or Ambulance Corps through
any other municipality adopting an ordinance and entering into an agreement
in accordance with the terms of this chapter.
In accordance with N.J.S.A. 40A:14-156.1 et seq., the members of the
Police Department and the Volunteer Fire Department and Ambulance Corps and
any other municipality passing an ordinance with the same terms and conditions
as this section, while on duty rendering assistance to any other municipality,
shall have the same powers, authority and immunities as have the members of
the Police Department, Fire Department or Ambulance Corps of the municipality
in which such assistance is being rendered.
