As used in this chapter, the following terms
shall have the meanings indicated:
ELEVATOR
Any device designed or used for the purpose of moving people
or material from one floor to another in a vertical manner, excluding
the following: dumbwaiters, escalators or similar devices.
All elevators shall comply with the requirements
of the New York State Fire Prevention and Building Code, the American
Society of Mechanical Engineers (ANSI A 17.1) and New York Codes,
Rules and Regulations Part 8.
An inspection report relating to passenger or
freight elevators shall indicate that the elevator is in proper working
condition and complies with the regulations and standards applicable
to elevators as prescribed in the New York State Fire Prevention and
Building Code and generally accepted trade standards.
A passenger elevator car shall be equipped with
a mirror in the rear of same in order to make the interior thereof
visible prior to a persons entry into the elevator car. Said mirror
shall be convex and no less than eight inches in diameter.
After any elevator has been inspected and is
found to conform with the requirements of this chapter, a record shall
be made on a card provided by the Department of Buildings of the Village
of Atlantic Beach and thereafter posted in the elevator car which
has been inspected and approved. It shall be unlawful to remove or
deface said card.
The fee for each elevator inspection made by
the Building Inspector of the Village of Atlantic Beach shall be as
set forth, from time to time, by resolution of the Board of Trustees.
Any person who knowingly and willfully violates
any provision of this chapter or who violates or fails to comply with
any order or requirement of an inspector or other officer charged
with the duty of inspecting elevators shall be guilty of an offense
punishable by a fine of not more than $500 or by imprisonment for
not more than 15 days.
