The Borough of New Salem hereby authorizes the compensation of the members and alternate members of the Zoning Hearing Board for the duties they perform.

A. 
The members of the Zoning Hearing Board shall receive compensation at a rate to be fixed by Borough Council. Such compensation shall not exceed the amount of compensation paid to the members of Council. Council shall determine and establish the initial rate of compensation immediately after the enactment of this article, and the rate so established shall remain in effect until modified by Council.
B. 
Alternate members of the Zoning Hearing Board shall receive compensation, as may be fixed by Borough Council, for the performance of their duties when designated as alternate members pursuant to Section 906 of the Pennsylvania Municipalities Planning Code,[1] Act 247, as amended, but in no case shall such compensation exceed the rate of compensation authorized to be paid to the members of Council.[2]
