The Township of Denton, County of Roscommon, State of Michigan, ordains that it shall be unlawful for any person, persons, copartnership or corporation to travel from house to house within said Township of Denton for the purpose of carrying to sell or exposing to sale any goods, wares or merchandise or to take orders for the purchase of goods, wares or merchandise by sample lists or catalogues unless he, she, they or it shall have obtained a license as a hawker or peddler in the manner hereinafter provided, to be issued by said Township of Denton.
Every person, copartnership or corporation desirous of obtaining a license as a hawker or peddler shall apply to the Treasurer of said Township of Denton and shall deliver to him a statement in writing stating the wares, goods and merchandise that he intends to hawk or peddle and the manner in which he expects to travel and the length of time that he, she, they or it shall hawk and/or peddle in said Township of Denton.
Every applicant before he shall be entitled to a permit or license to hawk and/or peddle in said Township shall pay to the Township Treasurer of said Township of Denton the sum of $15 for each day for which said applicant shall request a license.
Upon the presentation of the statement and the payment of the required license fee to the said Township Treasurer, the said Township Treasurer shall grant to such applicant a license to hawk and peddle in said Township of Denton in the manner and for such length of time as said license shall provide.
Nothing contained in this chapter shall be construed to prevent any manufacturer, farmer, mechanic or nurseryman from selling his work or production by sample or otherwise without a license; nor shall any peddler in meat and/or fish be prevented by anything herein contained from peddling such meat and/or fish without a license; nor shall any merchant who has been conducting a regularly established mercantile business in said Township for at least one year previous to the taking effect of this chapter be prevented from anything herein contained from selling groceries, dry goods or general merchandise from a truck within said Township without a license so long as he shall continue such regularly established business; nor shall any wholesale merchant be prevented from anything herein contained from selling to dealers.
Every person who shall be found hawking or peddling in said Township of Denton contrary to the terms of this chapter or who shall refuse to produce his license as a hawker and/or peddler shall be responsible for a municipal civil infraction, and proceedings shall be instituted pursuant to Chapter 38, Municipal Civil Infractions.

Nothing herein contained shall prevent any honorable discharged soldier, sailor or marine of the United States Military or Naval Service from hawking or peddling his own goods, wares and merchandise without a license, within said Township of Denton.
