GENERAL REFERENCES
Streets and sidewalks — See Ch. 520.
A. 
Township-supplied uniforms must be worn during working hours only. Short pants can be worn only with the approval of management during the warm months.
B. 
Safety shoes supplied by Burlington Township shall be worn during working hours only.
C. 
Employees must be trained by qualified personnel, prior to using any Township power equipment.
D. 
Seat belts must be worn at all times.
E. 
The Burlington Township Safety Rules and Regulations, as specifically set forth in a booklet which is on file with the Office of the Township Clerk, which booklet reflects that the said rules and regulations, as revised October 17, 2000, are hereby adopted as work rules within the Public Works Department of the Township of Burlington.
A. 
Treatment of the wells with acid.

Safety equipment for water main breaks, sewer main breaks or repairs, storm sewer repairs and any holes over four feet deep. (Note: Prior to any excavation, notify the underground utilities by calling 1-800-272-1000.)

Shoring the hole, also make sure the hole is the right size.

Working in holes over four feet deep:

Good judgment should be used concerning the speed of the plow truck. The plow should travel fast enough to move the snow but not fast enough to create a hazard to traffic or pedestrians.

If possible, snow should not be piled so high that it blocks a driver's view at an intersection.
P. 
Electrical hazards.
(1) 
When making repairs to pumps, mixers, etc., make certain that the proper breaker is turned off, locked out, and tagged.
(2) 
When changing fuses, be sure to use the proper tool for removal and replacement of the fuse.
(3) 
The Township Electrician is the only one qualified to make wiring changes or to perform any technical electrical repairs. (Note: If you have any doubts concerning electrical work, contact the Township Electrician.)
Q. 
Woodworking equipment (Sal's Garage).
(1) 
No one is permitted to use any of the power equipment in the woodshop without permission from the maintenance repairer/carpenter or the general foreman.
(2) 
Anyone needing to use the woodshop equipment must be properly trained on that piece of equipment.
(3) 
All safety precautions, such as eye protection and ear protection, must be used.
